The Family Victivallaceae

2014
The family Victivallaceae is a member of the order Victivallales and holds only two cultured representatives: Victivallis vadensis strain CelloT and the uncharacterized strain NML 080035. They are Gram-negative, nonmotile, and anaerobic. Within the family as well as the order, cloned 16S rRNA gene sequences from uncultured Victivallaceae have been obtained from a variety of environments (Cho et al. Environ Microbiol 6:611–621, 2004); Zoetendal et al. Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 53:211–215, 2003). The order Victivallales is also monogeneric and is deeply branching from its phylogenetic neighboring order Lentisphaerales. This strongly limits a comprehensive description of this family at the order, family, genus, and species level. However, a multitude of nearly full, high-quality 16S rRNA gene sequences belonging to the family Victivallaceae have been detected. It can be foreseen that different species of Victivallis or related genera will be isolated.
