PENERAPAN KETENTUAN PEMERINTAH UNTUK PENDIRIAN MUSEUM DI INDONESIAKajian Kasus-kasus Museum di Yogyakarta

Museum is an institution responsible for collecting, conserving, researching, and exhibiting objects which are significant for culture and science. In order to carry out their functions and tasks succesfully, a museum should follow certain regulation in line with the museum�s initial mission. In Indonesia, one of the main museum regulation is the Decree of the Minister of Culture and Tourism No. KM 33/PL.303/MKP/2004. This research will assess the compliance of the establishment of new museum to the above mentioned regulation, especially in Yogyakarta. Based on the available data it can be revealed to what degree the museums implemented the requirement stated in the regulation. Actually, the ultimate goals of this research is to promote the good image of museums in Indonesia. This can be initiated by evaluating the compliance of museum establishment to the available regulation. Then it should be studied further whether or not the available regulations accommodate the expectation of the public on the museums. A comparison will be made between the existing museum establishment regulation with the minimum standards set up by ICOM to benchmarking the existing regulations in Indonesia With these understandings, it is possible to enhance museum performance and this will promote the museum image in Indonesia. This research is carried out in five relatively new museum in Yogyakarta Special Region. Those are Museum Tani Jawa Indonesia, Museum Pendidikan Indonesia, Museum Sandi, Museum Bahari Museum and Museum Gunungapi Merapi Research in those museums shows that the regulation on the establishment of a new museum has not been implemented properly. Even the management of the museum did not realised the existence of the regulation when they initially established their museums. The benchmarking also demonstrates that the museum regulation in Indonesia does not accomodate new development in museology. Therefore, the present regulation need to be adjusted to the recent expectation of the public in general. Based on the evaluation results. a concept will be establish as basics for the development a new museum regulation. This can be considered as a guideline for the establishment of a new and more appropriate museum.
