WebGIS Concept of River Pollution Monitoring System—A Case Study of Yamuna River

2021
This study was performed in order to bridge the gap between IT and environmental studies. The aim is to develop a platform which would help in understanding the river pollution from the grass-root level. Dak Patthar to Agra at the Yamuna river catchment was selected for the study period of 2018–2020. The structure was based on a database generated for water quality, heavy metals and land use in the area. The application layers include Web Map, Heavy Metal Pollution Index, and WebGIS. The supporting layer has Arc Spatial Data Engine, SQLite and Java Server Pages. The data layers consist of pollution monitoring, pollution sources, and basic geographical structures. The application designed helps to analyze the data with an interactive platform giving users the provision to generate a new database based on various select query commands. The central and local authorities can use this platform to concentrate on the increasing pollution and further execute the preventive policy measures effectively.
