Coker distillates as source of linear alpha olefins and paraffins : indian scenario

1990
It is evident that coker distillates are a ready source for linear alpha olefins and n-paraffins. Urea adduction can be a convenient technique to separate them. The olefins can be sulphonated to alpha olefin sulphonate (AOS) and the unreacted n-paraffins utilized in various ways. The non-adductables could be sent back to the refinery. This source is capable of meeting the entire Indian demand for C 10 -C 18 olefins upto 2000 AD. The separation of olefins shall reduce hydrogen cost by about 30% in case it is desired to hydrotreat the coker distillates. The value of the separated olefins is much higher than the fuel values of the parent distillates
