FFT Angle Measurement Method Based on Sparse Line Array

In this paper, an angle measurement method based on fast Fourier transform (FFT) for far-field narrowband plane wave signals is proposed. Different from the traditional method, this method using the relationship between the FFT spectrum and the direction of arrival angle (DOA), adopted the sparse line array (SLA), under the premise of fixed array antenna aperture. Firstly, extracted the FFT weight coefficients of corresponding uniform line array (ULA). Secondly, used the coefficients to weight the output signals of SLA. Finally, searched the spectrum peaks to estimate the target arrival angle. The approach in this paper is simple and effective, which is convenient for hardware implementation. MATLAB simulation verified the algorithm validity.
