Qualitative and quantitative determination of polyphenol content of Scilla bifolia

2012
High-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry and UV detection was applied for qualitative of eighteen polyphenols and quantitative determination of fourteen of them in Scilla bifolia bulbs and aerial parts. Caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, luteolin and apigenin were found in all hydrolysed and unhydrolysed sample extracts. Sinapic acid was detected and quantified only in hydrolyzed extract of bulbs and aerial parts indicating that it is present only as ester.   Key words: Scilla bifolia, polyphenol, high-performance liquid chromatography-diode-array detection-mass spectrometry (HPLC-DAD-MS).
