EFFECT OF N-PHENYL-PHETALAMIC ACID ON FRUIT SET AND SOME MORPHOLOGICAL FRUIT INDEX OF FOUR GRAPEVINE (VITIS VINIFERA L.) CULTIVARS

1968
SummaryTrees of Cox’s Orange Pippin budded at 12 inches height on M.VII rootstocks were planted 6 inches deeper than usual and compared over a six-year period with similar trees budded at 6 inches and planted at normal depth, all without staking. The deep-planted trees all remained firmly anchored and required no staking while more than half the controls leaned over. There was a slight temporary check to growth with deep planting, and some reduction in early cropping. Suckering from roots was greatly reduced. The effects of deep planting were influenced by soil variation.
