Hypotensive Syndromes and Cognitive Impairment/Dementia

2020
Hypotensive syndromes in the elderly can result in transient hypoperfusion of cerebral circulation and can lead to ischemia, cerebral damage, and cognitive decline. In this chapter, the association between hypotensive syndromes and the risk of developing cognitive decline is discussed. Avoiding or adequately addressing hypotensive syndromes may decrease the risk of cognitive decline and dementia.
