A Mixed Variational Formulation for Laminated Plates

It is well known that the presence of holes, cracks or free edges in composites leads to steep stress gradients. Moreover, the material anisotropy and the abrupt change of mechanical properties from one layer to another are such that the stress field is tridimensional where the singularity occurs. Since any analytical technique is too complex, a finite element method has to be used.
