The influence of E85 ethanol fuel on the course of deposits formation in a Flex Fuel engine during a bench test

2018
The paper presents results of laboratory tests on E85 ethanol fuel, in the field of physicochemical properties assessment acc. to PKN-CEN/TS 15293:2012, intended to supply a FORD 1.8 l Duratec-HE PFI, Flex Fuel Vehicle type, engine during tests carried out on an engine test bed in view of the tested object fouling with deposits. The tests in question, including the laboratory tests on E85 ethanol fuel, were performed in an accredited laboratory of the Oil and Gas Institute — National Research Institute (INiG-PIB) in Krakow. The engine tests, related to the assessment of intake valves and combustion chambers fouling, were carried out in accordance with a modified test procedure for Deposit Forming Tendency on Intake Valves determination CEC F-20-98.
