Cyber Security for Smart Meters

2019
Over the year’s cyber threats on smart meters has become vulnerable to grid. This paper is proposed to prevent a cyber-attack on smart grids and smart meters. The most unguarded part of smart grids are smart meters. The main Contribution of this project is to finding out various forms of cyber-attacks on smart meters. Nowadays the smart meter involves two-way communication thus the real time values can be monitored and controlled from the substation. The voltage sensors and current sensors in the smart meter will continuously read the real time values and sends the analog values to the microcontroller present in the smart meter. The microcontroller calculates the power output and the rate tariff from the units consumed. Now the calculated output values are uploaded to the IoT cloud by means of communication module. From the IoT cloud the values can be monitored in the substation. Now the ANN protocol will repeatedly overseer the above process and will intimidate if any cyber-attack has occurred. Now after getting the alert message from the ANN the substation in charge will trip off the respective relay of the consumer.
