Technologies for repowering existing fossil fuel fired power plants

1995
Several methods for repowering existing thermal power plants are discussed with respect to the purpose of the repowering and the individual features of the repowered plants. Repowering can be broadly defined as an attempt to increase plant output, improve plant efficiency, extend plant life, and maintain compatibility with the environment by modifying existing thermal power plants. In a more narrow sense, repowering can be described as a combined cycle system of adding new generating equipment to existing thermal power plants in order to increase plant output. Hitachi, Ltd. has developed and established a repowering technology using fully-fired combined cycle system which features increased plant output and is compatible with both high efficiency and environmental safety in a short construction time.
