Prevalências de lesões esportivas em atletas de goalball

Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of sports injuries in goalball athletes who are visually impaired. Method: Fifty-five male and 26 female goalball players from the south and southeast regions of Brazil participated in this study. Anthropometric variables were measure and questionnaires were applied to verify the incidence of pain and the prevalence of injuries in athletes. Data were treated using descriptive statistics, Student's t-test, analysis of variance, Chi-square and Pearson's correlation test, adopting significance p <0.05. Results: The athletes had a mean age of 29.12 years (+ 9.85). A quarter of the athletes were overweight / obese. Regarding the presence of injuries, 32% of the athletes presented the problem, with the hip / thigh region presenting the biggest complaints. Dislocation was the most common cause of injuries. All athletes in the study reported feeling some kind of pain and most reported interference of pain in daily activities, with the practice of sports as the most remembered. Conclusion: The high number of reports of pain and injuries among athletes stands out, which highlights the need for investment in physical preparation in the preventive sense.
