African swine fever (ASF), caused by ASF virus (ASFV), is one of the most serious infectious diseases affecting pigs. In 1921, ASFV was first discovered in Kenya, Eastern Africa.1 In the 1950s, it rapidly spread across Europe including Spain, Portugal, Italy and France.
