Research progress in heterologous boost vaccines for Bacillus Calmette-Guerin prime immunization

Tuberculosis (TB) is a prevalent and harmful infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Nowadays, TB is more and more seriously prevalent worldwide, and remains one of the main infectious diseases for adult death as well as the leading cause of death among AIDS patients. There is an urgent need to develop a new specific and efficient vaccine against TB and immunization regimen for TB control. The heterologous prime-boost immunization strategy brings a promise for TB prophylaxis. This review will discuss research advances in heterologous boost vaccines for Bacillus Calmette-Guerin prime immunization and its immunization regimen.
