Value of carbogen plus low concentration oxygen radiotherapy in patients with advanced cancer in abdomen or pelvis

Objective To study the value of carbogen plus low concentration oxygen radiotherapy(CPLCOR) in patients with advanced cancer in abdomen or pelvis.Methods Sixty patients with advanced cancer in abdomen or pelvis were assigned to two groups equally at random.One group took up carbogen plus low concentration oxygen radiotherapy and the controller took up traditional radiotherapy(TR).The side effects,survival and quality of life were compared.Results The degree of WBC descent in CPLCOR group was less than the control group(P0.05)and there was no statistical difference in descent of HGB and PLT.Acute diarrhea rate after radiation of CPLCOR group was lower than that of TR group.The group that took up carbogen plus low concentration oxygen radiotherapy was superior to the controller on survival span and quality of life(P0.05).Conclusion In the palliative therapy of advanced abdominal or pelvic cancer,carbogen plus low concentration oxygen radiotherapy was superior to traditional radiotherapy.
