Cancer risk associated with occupational, environmental and medical exposure in a cohort of nuclear workers

2016
The French cohort of nuclear workers can allow for the assessment of cancer risk associated with occupational exposure to radiation. But workers also receive exposure to medical and environmental radiation which can be of the same order of magnitude as their occupational exposure. This study intends to examine the potential impact of adding non-occupational radiation doses to occupational doses in the analyses of the association between radiation exposure and cancer mortality. The cohort includes all workers employed between 1950 and 1994 for at least one year by CEA, AREVA or EDF and badge-monitored for radiation exposure. Vital statuses and causes of death were obtained from national registries. Occupational exposure to radiation was obtained through dosimetric recordings. Different scenarios of medical and environmental exposure were simulated based on different assumptions relying on current knowledge of radiation exposure in the French population. Poisson regression methods were used to quantify asso...
