A Bio inspired UAV model based on Corvus Splendens

2015
A model of a bio-inspired flapping wing UAV is introduced based on the natural model of Corvus Splendens (the house crow). The main aim behind this model is its potential use in reconnaissance missions. The model presents a single degree of freedom flapping mechanism based on the four bar mechanism theory. A virtual model of the wing assembly was designed in the mechanism designing software SAM 6.1, where the entire wing movement was analyzed. The mechanism was designed such that the exact 30° flapping angle of the wings was achieved. A CAD model of the whole bird was also developed in a solid modeling software, using which the entire bird design was visualized. Finally, analysis of the selected airfoil was performed using Ansys 14.0.
