A Case-control Study of Risk Factors of Cognitive Impairment in Community Elderly

2013
Objective To analyze the possible risk factors that affect the elderly cognitive impairment in Hui, Han community and to provide reference for carrying out the community- based interventions of cognitive impairment. Methods 124 cases with cognitive function disorders were selected from community site investigation as cases while 124 normal subjects were selected as controls. Matching factors included gender, age, ethnicity and 1∶ 1matched case- control design were used to compare the levels of serum total testosterone, estradiol, luteinizing hormone,follicle- stimulating hormone, sex hormone- binding globulin, and biochemical indicators between cases and controls. Conditional logistic regression model were adopted for multivariate analysis. Results The levels of serum TC and LDL in cases were significantly higher than those in controls( P 0. 05). Serum levels of total testosterone, estradiol, luteinizing hormone,follicle- stimulating hormone, sex hormone- binding globulin levels showed no significant difference between cases and controls. The total cholesterol were in the equation after multivariate conditional logistic regression( OR = 0. 71,95% CI : 0. 54 ~ 0. 95). Conclusion After controlling the factors such as gender, age and ethnic, the serum sex hormone levels had no significant correlation with cognitive dysfunction in the elderly.
