Virtual PET Scanner – From Simulation in GATE to a Final Multiring Albira PET/SPECT/CT Camera

Simulation of the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) camera became a useful tool at the level of scanner design. One of the most versatile methods with several packages available is Monte-Carlo method, reviewed in (Rogers 2006). It was applied in GEANT4 code (Agostinelli et al. 2003) used in nuclear physics applications. Other codes used in medical physics and medicine are EGS (for review see (Rogers 2006)), FLUKA (Andersen et al. 2005), MCNP (Forster et al. 2004), PENELOPE (Sempau et al. 2001).
