Climbing aid (4) for mounting on a motor vehicle (1) comprising means disposed on a support hinge means (7) to which a conductor (8) with two spars (9) and a plurality of rungs (10) about a horizontal first pivot axis (13 ) is pivotally arranged, so that the conductor (8) is positionable in a their entering enabling working position, wherein the rungs (10) are pivotably articulated to the uprights (9), that the spars (9) are parallel to one another and movable apart wherein the joint means (7) in such a manner perpendicular to a to the first pivot axis (13) second pivot axis (14) is pivotally mounted to the carrier, that the conductor (8) from the working position by pivoting about the first pivot axis (13) and the second pivot axis (14) can be brought into a storage position in which the collapsed ladder (8) along the motor vehicle (1).
