Factors Related to the End-of-Life Care Stress of Nurses in Cancer Care Units

This study is to identify correlation between end-of-life care stress, clinical decision-making and resilience of nurses in cancer care unit. This study was conducted for 150 nurses having more than an year of work experience in end-of-life care part at cancer care unit of 3 different hospitals in B mtropolitan City. In result, end-of-life care stress was 3.78±0.39, clinical decision-making was 3.06±0.25, and resilience was 2.42±0.41. In resilience, significant differnce was found depending on age, religion, clinical experience, and final education. End-of-life care stress was correlated with subfactor(evaluation and reevaluation of consequences) in clinical decision-making, and subfactor(spirituality) in resilience. Clinical decision-making was correlated with resilience. Therefore, guidelines should be developed to make appropriate clinical decision for patients’ situation to alleviate the end-of-life care stress of nurse in cancer ward. Additionally, continuous education for nurses who take of dying patients should be accompanied.
