ba3-Cytochrome c Oxidase From Thermus Thermophilus

2006
ba3-Cytochrome c oxidase from Thermus thermophilus is a terminal enzyme of respiration that catalyzes the reduction of dioxygen to water. It is produced at low oxygen tension and is one of the most divergent members of the heme–copper oxidase superfamily. ba3-Oxidase has been isolated from T. thermophilus membranes, purified and characterized using several biochemical and biophysical techniques. Its crystal structure has been solved at high resolution. The current review summarizes the results on structure and function relationship of ba3-oxidase that have been elucidated during the last decade. 3D Structure Keywords: ba3-cytochrome c oxidase; heme-copper-oxidase; membrane protein; oxygen channel; proton pump; Thermus thermophilus
