The antioxidant activity evaluation has been an important issue considering its importance to human health. The experiment was to evaluate the antioxidant potential in vitro, extracts of Psidium guajava L. var. pyrifera and Psidium guajava L. var. pomifera also quantify phenols and flavonoids present in the extracts. In tests of capturing the free radical DPPH was observed a better antioxidant activity in EHFPG var. that is related to the high level of flavonoids and phenolic compounds. To test TBARs with phospholipid egg extracts reduced the basal levels in the process of lipid peroxidation, and when induced by the Fe2 + EEFPG was more efficient. Through these tests can be seen that the extracts from the leaves of P. guajava L. species and P. guajava L.var pomifera showed antioxidant activity, but not related to phenolic substances. The extracts also showed no potential cytoprotective against the iron II.
