Nannizziopsis chlamydospora associated necrotizing dermatomycosis in a bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps)

2019
Abstract A 5-month-old bearded dragon ( Pogona vitticeps ) presented with panepidermal necrosis and exudation on the left foreleg. Serous exudate was seen underneath dry and hardened skin. Swab and microscopic examination revealed severe inflammation and septate hyphae. On radiography, moderate osteolysis was found on distal part of left humerus. Fungal culture produced white fungal colonies with irregular margins. Analysis of the ITS region indicated the isolated fungus as Nannizziopsis chlamydospora . This is the first case of N. chlamydospora -associated necrotizing dermatomycosis reported in the Republic of Korea.
