Towed underwater vehicle used in the characterization of the seabed.

2008
Towed underwater vehicle used in the characterization of the seabed. Towed by a towing vessel, comprising a frame (1) pipe or profile with a cladding panels (5). Incorporates a camera (4) digital overhead to image the background plus target focus (8) and pointers (9) laser to set the scale. It incorporates probes (7) for measuring pressure, temperature and salinity and an altimeter (6) for measuring distance to the bottom. By a first modem (3) located in the acoustic underwater vehicle and a second acoustic modem installed on the towing vessel the measurement information is transmitted. The underwater vehicle does not employ umbilicals and connected to the ship by means of a towing cable (2) and crow's feet (16). It presents great stability due to a pair of rudders (12) at the rear (13), its aerodynamic shape, a drag (14) at the bottom heavy and buoys (15) at the top.
