Consideraţii clinice şi terapeutice în sindromul Woakes

2020
Woakes’ syndrome is a very rare condition, defined as a severe recurrent nasal polyposis, which through continuous pressure exerted by chronic inflammation and extensive enlargement of the nasal polyps in the nasal cavity and in the paranasal sinuses, can cause nasal and facial deformities. Endoscopic sinus surgery is widely considered the gold-standard treatment of Woakes’ syndrome, as well as of its frequent recurrences. The authors describe the clinical and therapeutic aspects of this syndrome, exemplified through a clinical case from their casuistry, emphasizing the particularities encountered: the patient’s long history of the pathology, anatomical and surgical risk factors, and therapeutic difficulties.
