Study on treatment with bortezomib for multiple myeloma

Objective To explore the outcome and side-effects in patients with multiple myeloma treated with bortezomib and combined dexamethagone or chemotherapy.Methods 8 patients with multiple myeloma were treated with the combination of bortezomib and dexamethasone or VTD chemotherapy.Results 8 patients responded to treatment well.Three patients achieved complete remission(CR),2 achieved partial remission(PR)and 3 minimal response(MR).The most common adverse events were gastrointestinal symptoms,thrombocytopenia,peripheral neumpathy,hepatic impairment and fatigue.All the adverse events were manageable with symptomatic therapy and(or)dose modification.Conclusion Bortezomib with combination of chemotherapy is an effective and safety treatment for patients with multiple myeloma.
