A cross-sectional cattle disease study in Kongor Rural Council, Southern Sudan. II. Brucellosis in cows: Associated factors, impact on production and disease control considerations

1987
Abstract The associations between clinical findings, calving rate and brucellosis serological diagnosis were examined in a sample of 340 cows from Kongor Rural Council, southern Sudan. Both abortions and hygromas were significantly associated with a diagnosis of brucellosis by the Rose-Bengal test (RBT). In addition, 1 10% decrease in the number of calves (adjusted for cowage) produced by RBT-positive cows was observed. Issues concerning the public health implications and control prospects for bovine brucellosis in Kongor Rural Council are also discussed.
