Chimeric antibodies for the treatment of hematologic malignancy.

1993
The capacity of a deregulated immune system to destroy all manner of normal tissues in a variety of pathological conditions is well recognized. One of the major goals of oncology is to refocus this capacity to mediate tumor specific destruction; to recreate, in effect, the inflammatory response that the tumor has avoided. Such a strategy demands the ability to activate and expand adequate quantities of effector cells (and proteins), to recruit these to the tumor site, and then to retarget them towards selective tumor cell destruction.
