RAFTS AND BEAMS ON COMPRESSIBLE SUBSOIL

By presenting these tables, an aid is given to the practising engineer with the help of which it is possible to calculate rafts and beam foundations not only from the point of view of safety but also from the point of view of economy. Theoretical treatments are intentionally omitted since they are to be found in numerous text books. The presented explanations, which are supplemented with numerous examples, are confined mainly to the content of the book, and thereby illustrate the application and way of using the tables. Based on the method of the modulus of compressibility, the values of the given 5460 tables are calculated with the help of an electronic computer and are presented in 910 pages. Influence coefficients for determining contact pressure, settlement, shear force and bending moments may be taken from these tables for practically all rafts and beam foundations which are met in practice. The outputs of the computer are directly used as part of the book and thus the complete tables are certainly free from printing errors. The accuracy of the computation has been tested by carrying out numerous check calculations. Explanations are given in German, English, French and Spanish so that the tables presented herein may be used throughout the world. It should be pointed out that neither the initial data nor the tables are in any way attached to specifications of any particular country. All the initial data can be chosen at will. /TRRL/
