Assessment and main characteristic parameters of the Cairo Fourier diffractometer facility

1997
Abstract This report represents the results of the measurements performed recently with the Cairo Fourier diffractometer facility (CFDF). The CFDF performance is assessed and the main parameters are given. The neutron guide system attached to the CFDF provides a thermal neutron flux of ∼1.1 × 10 6 n / cm 2 s at the sample position; free from fast neutrons and gamma ray background. It has been found, from measurements with different powder samples, that such value of the thermal neutron flux is adequate for neutron diffraction measurements, at scattering angle 2 θ = 90° and d -spacing values between 0.7 and 2.5 A; with 0.45% resolution.
