The apparatus (10) for communication between an electric vehicle (F) and a loading station (L) for generating a pilot function, comprising an evaluation unit (14) and control unit (15) and two voltage outputs (12, 13), said first voltage output (12) a pilot conductor (PL) having a voltage input (21) of a vehicle-side electronic ballast (20) can be connected and the second voltage output (13) via a fair line (ML) having a voltage input (22) for a vehicle mass (M) of the ballast (20) is connected, wherein by means of the evaluation and control unit (14, 15), a PWM signal is generated, which is applied via an output resistor R1 at the first voltage output (12) and is evaluated, characterized in that (by means of the evaluation and control unit 14 , 15), two unipolar PWM signals (S'1, S'2) are generated, which are inverse to each other, wherein the first PWM signal (S'1) is applied to the first voltage output (12) and the second PWM Signal (S'2) to the second voltage output (13) is applied.
