Cross-Section Shape of Radial Tire

1977
Cross-section shape of radial tire can be generally determined by the equilibrium conditions for the in-extensible radial cords under the inflation pressure at the sidewall and a reduced inflation pressure due to the contact pressure transmitted from the breaker belt at the tread. Explicit expressions of integral form for the cross-section shape were previously obtained by several authors in accordance with the assumed contact pressure distribution of parabolic or uniform shape at the tread. In this paper, the cross-section shape and the cord length of radial tire for two cases of a uniform contact pressure distribution and a constant tread radius were found to be expressed by elliptic integrals in a pair of two separate forms. Good agreement between the calculated cross-section shapes of radial tire and measured ones was obtained.
