Keynote: Advance in Computational Hydrodynamics Applied to Wave-in-Deck

2014
During the last decade, wave-in-deck loading on offshore structures has increasingly been acknowledged as an issue of concern to the offshore oil and gas industry. In this paper, a numerical approach for simulations of extreme ocean waves interacting with fixed offshore structures is presented in the frame work of an open source library, OpenFOAM. In this approach, a novel wave model based on NewWave approach has been developed to reproduce the violent sea state, i.e. the extreme wave conditions. To validate the simulation, the current approach has been applied to calculate the wave loads for a deck modeled as a simple box under a 100 years design wave for the Ekofisk field in the Southern North Sea. The calculations are compared with earlier studies.
