Comments on “Small Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Is Radiofrequency Ablation Combined with Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization More Effective than Radiofrequency Ablation Alone for Treatment?”

2009
Patients with 3-cm or smaller hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) who are treated with combined radiofrequency ablation and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) have local tumor progression rates, overall survival rates, and local progression-free survival rates that are equivalent to those of patients who undergo radiofrequency ablation alone; hence, the addition of TACE to radiofrequency ablation for HCCs 3 cm or smaller does not appear to be warranted.
