The potential of sustainable biogas production from animal waste

2021
Abstract Animal waste is an important food and renewable energy source. But a significant environmental danger is posed by most waste deposited in lakes or left to decay in the open air. Methane, nitrous oxide, ammonia, sulfide hydrogen, volatile organic compounds, and contaminants are all of the fertilizer's air pollutants that may cause major environmental problems and health issues. Biogas is a biomass fuel is produced from biodegradation by anaerobic digestion in the absence of oxygen or biodegradable products, for example, biomass and fertilizer sewage. This method generates a gas mixture—methane, carbon dioxide in particular, and other small components of gases such as hydrogen sulfide. This chapter will highlight the importance of sustainable biogas production from animal wastes and the benefits of biogas. Additionally, we will discuss the barriers and prospects for biogas production from animal wastes.
