Recurrent Juvenile Active Ossifying Fibroma requiring Radical Maxillectomy and Palatal Prosthesis

2011
 Histology: Exact histopathological definitions of JAOFs and their distinction from ossifying fibromas are somewhat controversial. JAOFs are generally classified as either trabecular or psammomatoid variants. Both variants are usually demarcated from adjacent bone but nonencapsulated. These tumors exhibit a cellular fibroblastic proliferation with variable mineralized components. Trabecular tumors demonstrate cellular osteoid organized in irregular strands surrounded by plump osteoblasts, whereas psammomatoid tumors form concentric lamellated rounded ossicles with basophilic centers and peripheral eosinophilic rims.
