The muon and Kl detector for the babar experiment: Physics requirements, final design and start of construction

1998
Resistive Plate Chambers have been chosen as active elements for the μ and K l detector in the BaBar experiment. This subsystem, now under construction, represents the most extensive use to date of the RPC technology. The design considerations are presented, together with preliminary results on the operating characteristics.
