A tunable inverted-L antenna (TILA) for LTE mobile terminals

A Tunable Inverted L Antenna (TILA) for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) mobile terminals is presented. Two ILAs with different lengths and varactor diodes are combined to enable bandwidth and resonance tunability at lower and upper bands respectively. The antenna 10dB bandwidth is tunable from 2250 MHz to 2700 MHz in the lower band and from 5000 MHz to 5800 MHz in the upper band. The realized gain in the lower and upper bands is 3.87 dB and 2.73 dB, respectively, with good isolation and Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC) of less than 0.05.
