PSYCHOLOGICAL SURVEY AND ANALYSIS ON THE PARENTS OF 1569 DRUG ABUSERS

2000
Objective: To understand the parents'knowledge about drugs before their children took drugs, the psychological status after their children became drug addicts and their response to drug prohibition and detoxification. Method: A self_designed “Parents' Psychology Survey Questionnaire” was used to survey the parents of 1596 drug abusers. Result: 99.62% of the parents lacked the knowledge of drugs before their children took drugs; 98.81% knew nothing about their children's drug abuse behavior until serious result occurred; 98.80% kept it a secret when they learned their children’s drug abuse beha_vior. Due to this, in 1596 drug abusers, over 99% were forced to undertake compulsory detoxification. Though some parents sent their children to undertake voluntary detoxification, they always relapsed. They dared not turn to the Public Security Bureau to conduct compulsory drug abstinence or the society for supervision, nor dared they fight resolutely against illegal and criminal cases. Conclusion: Parents'complicated and contradictory psychology is an important reason leading to their children's failure in detoxifying drugs effectively and timely.
