The effect of particle-stimulated nucleation on texture banding in an aluminium alloy
2010
The effect of particle-stimulated nucleation (PSN) on texture banding in a 6016 aluminium alloy was investigated. PSN generated sufficient non-Cube nuclei such that runaway growth of the {1 0 0} 〈0 0 1〉 Cube grains was prevented and coarse, elongated grains did not dominate the microstructure after intermediate annealing (IA). The findings suggest that a small grain size after IA, even in the presence of a strong texture, leads to reduced banding of crystallographic orientations in the final heat-treated materials.
