PRELIMINARY COMPARATIVE EFFECT OF PARACETAMOL WITH PARACETAMOL-DICLOFENAC COMBINATION ON THE FUNCTIONAL INTEGRITY OF THE RAT KIDNEY DURING TEN DAYS DAILY TREATMENT

2007
Pharmacovigilance charged with drug safety problem and rational use of drug is increasingly creating awareness among the health professionals. Based on this fact, this work was aimed at comparing the effect of Paracetamol (P) with Paracetamol-diclofenac (PD) combination, a new analgesic combination on the functional integrity of the rat kidney during ten days daily drug treatment. Findings from this work may form a basis for integration into clinical studies. One group of rats was administered P(14.14mg/kg) and the other PD (15.7mg/kg), orally daily for 10 days. The control group was given the vehicle used in preparing the drug. The volumes of water intake and urine excretion were determined with the aid of metabolic cage. The potassium and sodium levels were determined using flame photometric method. Urine pH was determined using pH strips. The volume of water intake and urine excreted from the rats treated with PD on the 10
