Interventions are targeted at the people who can influence the child's socialisation process, especially parents and teachers. Behavioural parenttraining programmes have been found to be the most effective in the short term. There is some debate amongst child and adolescent psychiatrists as to whether doctors and mental health professionals should be involved in any but the most complex cases (Goodman 1997).
