SummaryInorder toelucidate survival ratesandrisk ofsecond primary cancer,we assessed 204patients with histologically confirmed classic Kaposi's sarcoma (KS)whowere identified in11Italian population-based cancerregistries. Onehundred andthirty-nine were men (median age70years) and65were women (median age72). One,5and10yearsurvival rates were0.92, 0.69and0.46respectively. Mediansurvival was 9.4years (i.e. notdifferent fromtheItalian general population ofthesame sexandage). Survival didnotvaryaccording tosexandtumoursite (i.e. lower limbs only orother). Eleven second primary cancers,including twolungand twokidney cancers,werereported after KSdiagnosis (notdifferent fromtheexpected number).
