Noi direcţii în imunoterapia alergenică

It is known that allergen immunotherapy is the only treatment that can modify the evolution of allergic disease and induce immunological tolerance. The molecular characterization of allergens has made important progress, thereby making possible to develop specific immunotherapy vaccines that target certain immune mechanisms. Recent changes in immunotherapy preparations that use recombinant allergens obtained through molecular engineering techniques have increased vaccine efficacy and safety profile. Thus, an attempt is made to establish a treatment scheme that can be performed in a shorter period of time, with the intention of increasing the patients’ adherence to therapy. The favorable evolution following the therapy shows the need to carry out complementary studies in order to improve the quality of the vaccine preparations, also leading to the development of an immunoprophylaxis.
