MO2-7-1Efficacy of information prescription booklet and video material on patient adherence for chemothrapy induced dermopathy

2019
Abstract Background In administration of anti-EGFR antibody preparation, acne-like rash, hand foot skin reaction, and skin dryness occur frequently. Patient adherence of external moisturizing agent used for prevention of dermatopathy seems to be poor. We prepared information prescription booklet for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy (information prescription booklets) and video material based on this. Pharmacist conducted patient instruction using these tools. We evaluated the change in adherence by using such information prescription booklet and video material. Method The subjects were patients with panitumumab and cetuximab at the Shizuoka Cancer Center. The index of adherence is the daily usage amount of external moisturizing agent. Adherence was observed in three periods. Period 1; before distribution of information prescription booklet (before March 2017), Period 2; after distribution of information prescription booklet (March 2017 - May 2018), Period 3; after distribution of information prescription booklet and video material (after May 2018). Result Number of patients in periods 1, 2 and 3 were 45, 70, and 30, respectively. The number of administrations of the anti-EGFR antibody preparation during the observation period was 9 to 11 times (median). The amount of external preparation used per day(mean(SD)) was 5.0(3.3) g/day in Period 1. In contrast, the amount were increased to 7.3(6.2) g/day and 9.1(5.0) g/day in the period 2 and the period 3 after distribution of the information prescription booklet and information prescription bookleti wth video material respectively (p = 0.026, p = 0.001). Discussion Patient instruction using the information prescription booklet and video material was thought to be effective in improving supportive therapy adherence by positively affecting the preventive behavior of the patient.
