Fundamentals of Brain–Barrier Anatomy and Global Functions

2019
Abstract The blood–brain barrier is recognized as a sophisticated controller of brain homeostasis. Its importance is evident in most neurological diseases, but its role in fine-tuning normal central nervous system function is perhaps less appreciated. Herein we review the most recent literature on this subject and identify questions that remain to be answered in the growing field of cerebrovascular physiology.
