Pancreatic teratoma: Case report of a rare cystic neoplasm

2009
Abstract We present a case of a 40-year-old male who complained of vague abdominal pain and had a cystic-appearing tumor with solid components on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The lesion was resected and the very rare diagnosis of a mature pancreatic teratoma was confirmed by postoperative histology. One particularly interesting aspect of this case, especially in consideration of the rising role of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in abdominal imaging is the significant restriction of diffusion within the solid components of the tumor, with the potential pitfall of misinterpreting this finding as sign of malignancy.
