The congenital anomalies of the great vessels are anomalies of the aorta, resulting in aortic hypoplasia/stenosis or causing compression of neighboring organs; anomalies of the pulmonary artery, resulting in pulmonary artery hypoplasia/stenosis or causing compression of neighboring organs; and abnormal congenital shortcuts involving major intrathoracic vessels, leading to a left to right shunt or a right to left shunt.
